Thanksgiving "Turkey Trot" 8k

Come Support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with Charlotte's 21st annual Turkey Trot. There are a varitey of options to pick from depending on your level of ability and experience. The event is held on Thanksgiving morning and what better way to give Thanks than to donate some time and exercise to a wonderful organization (Team-in-Training). I know first hand, that TIT helps many people with Leukemia and their staff members are not in their roles for the money-they truly care about their cause. Check out the website for times and the various walk/runs that you can be apart of. Grab a family member and do something to make you feel good and help others on Thanksgiving!

One Can Make A Difference

Came across a great book that has original stories by The Dalai Lama, Paul McCartney, Willie Nelson, Russell Simmons, Martina Navratilova, Stella McCartney and more....

The book tells simple stories from individuals who made simple actions help change the world.

Getting the Bare Necessities

Another BIG project that will most likely be talked about a lot on this blog is the Living Waters operation that I am involved in. Water, It is at the heart of a daily crisis faced by a billion of the world’s most vulnerable people, a crisis that threatens life and destroys livelihoods on a devastating scale. Living Waters' trains, equips, and consults nationals to ensure that the energy and resources contributed by volunteers and donors result in sustainable, participatory water systems that meet the long-term needs of communities. Check out the website so that you can get involved in helping a community have what most of us take for granted on a daily basis, clean water.

The Wall

This is the first post to my new blog and I don't think I could kick it off any better than with a recap of a successful event in my own city of Charlotte. I am a member of Newell Presbyterian Church and with their help I was fortunate enough to volunteer to feed around 100 hungry residents of Charlotte on 11/4/09. On the outskirts of downtown Charlotte there is a known area termed "The Wall" where every Wednesday and Sunday nights, hungry community members line up to be fed by a kind organization that has chosen to volunteer. This past week, Newell stepped up to the plate and brought buckets of KFC along with sides and leftover dinner items from their "Newell Time" which takes place at the church every Wednesday night. I did not expect the outcome and felt conflicted at the emotions that arose from the few hours I spent handing out dinner. I was happy that I could be apart of something that felt so great but I was also saddened to see so many people within my own city that were going hungry. It just goes to show you that you don't need a ticket to a far off land to do good. You can simply walk the streets in your own neighborhood.
